When splint therapy is called for in treating a temporomandibular disorder, either the Brux-eze® or Rem-e-deze® is an excellent
appliance choice.
The Brux-eze® splint is constructed of heat-cured elasticized acrylic making it difficult for patients to break or permanently distort. In its processed form, at room temperature, it can be softened in
warm water to facilitate seating. In the mouth, it is slightly softer than acrylic.
The Rem-e-deze® is a second generation hybrid splint. While the buccal and lingual surfaces can be softened to aid insertion, the occlusal surface is constructed of hard heat-cured acrylic.
Since both splints offer the ability to be softened and engaged tooth undercuts, clasping is unnecessary.
Minimal Chair Time
Tooth side adjustments are seldom needed and time consuming chair side relines are virtually eliminated.
Adjustability
Both appliances can be trimmed and polished using normal acrylic techniques. The appliances require no change in clinical procedures or materials and lend themselves to all treatment philosophies.
Custom Comfort and Fit
Brux-eze® and Rem-e-deze® offer the important advantage of fitting even after periods of non-use.
Patient Selection
For patients who are bruxers or heavy clenchers, the Rem-e-deze® should be your appliance choice. The harder occlusal surface will give even longer service than the
softer Brux-eze® material. Patient compliance is very high.
Preparation
Because the Rem-e-deze® splint requires more complicated laboratory procedures, it is moderately more expensive than the Brux-eze® appliance.
You need only to provide our laboratory with upper and lower stone casts and a wax bite (preferably taken at the position the splint will be constructed.)
